But then, I might be wrong..

Everyone has point of views and they are correct in their own perspective of things. I also formed one and thought will pen it down. So, I formed this point of view while listening to Metallica and surfing the net for Himalayan travelogues(thing I love doing most)....at my work place. No, Don't send your resumes to me as I do not work for a company who pays for listening to music and surfing net. BTW, I am an IT professional... just another IT professional.

The fact of the matter is that my company do not have enough work for me to keep me busy at the moment. So, what I am suppose to do.. crib, protest.. you'll say. Well, yes, like many of you IT brethren will do, I did exactly that.. was breathing hard on my boss's neck for work, showing him my face every day to make him see that I am growing beard in protest and have not had a hair cut for few months now. How can I waste 8 hours of my life every day, Is this company good for my career, Am I out of my rockers to stay in this company, How could I live with the guilt of not earning my salary by the end of the day ??? Such were the questions popping in my head few days back.

But today, a familiar face in the mirror asked me when was the last time you did something creative, when was the last time you listened to that song which made you feel like great in college, when was the last time you had passionately perused a hobby, when was the last time you had that hearty conversation with your friend, when was the last time you spent quality time with your family, when was the last time you did something to loose those extra pounds you had been accumulating while sitting long hours in the office chair, when was the last time you did something other than writing code and felt good about it????????
Now you say, here we go .. haven't we heard this teachy preachy stuff before.. well, fellas, yes we have heard this before .. but what have we done about it ?

So, next time when you find yourself with some less work pressure, spare your boss from the agony of not being able to help you with your situation. Poor chap can not generate work for you and you know that. Most IT companies in India work as either Service companies or the MNCs have their cost centers here and in both cases, the work will happen in spikes. So, what do you do, keep jumping jobs, keep running from reality? After spending two years, every company will feel same and will pose same issues. Instead, my friend, use this free time you've got for something you had been wanting to do for so many years.

Now, am I advocating that we should have fun on company's expense... Well, it is debatable and No, My intention is not that. But if you have got some low work pressure because of the "business reasons", what can your company or you do about it ? Wait for work and wait patiently for it will come your way; you and me can not hasten up things on that front.. a good task/project coming your way will take it's own course. In the wait process you will learn to be a more patient person; a quality which is missing in likes of you and me today. Patience is one quality which will make you a better human being and a better professional. Think about that elderly man you know who spent his 35 years in doing same Govt. Job day in and day out and today we can not even be patient enough for 35 days and blame our bosses for not having good planning skills and for not getting enough work for us. When you will be on your death bed, you might repent not doing those things in life which you always wanted to but you will never repent for not having to work on that dream project in your office. When you die, your life will end and profession is just part of your life.. not the entire life ; you might have lived your professional life but would you have lived your LIFE ?.. I don't think so....and you are not going to get back this life.. ever.. but then, I might be wrong.....
